I Wanted to Tell

The other day I wanted to tell the story

Of a U.S. president in the era of cryptocoin.

Fury shook me

But then my voice failed

For I realized what an effort it would cost

To tell that story to those not yet born

But who will be born, and live in ages so different from ours.

The lucky devils will be unable to grasp

What a thug is

Of the kind we know.

—Adapted from a stanza of “This Babylonian Confusion” by Bertolt Brecht
