The government’s responsibilities for the deaths are criminal
Another fatality has been reported in the wildfires that have been raging in Washington state since Friday. These fires have consumed over 137 square kilometers of land and 265 buildings. The number of displaced fire victims has surpassed 5,000.
This tragedy underscores the glaring inadequacy of the state apparatus, which remains lacking in essential personnel and resources, as it treats the safeguarding of life, public property, and the environment as mere expenses.
Once again, the criminal policy of prioritizing business interests at the expense of workers and the people has been laid bare. The government bears the responsibility of supplying all necessary resources to combat these fires.
The time has come for widespread mobilization and solidarity to salvage whatever can be saved. This effort should be combined with asserting rightful demands and intensifying the struggle against these criminal policies.
