CWPUSA Central Committee Statement on US Attack on Venezuela

In the early hours of 3 January, the United States escalated its aggression against Venezuela through bombings in Caracas and other cities and towns. This escalation is the culmination of years of political and economic warfare to strangle Venezuelan workers and people. The image of a Trump administration that claimed it would assume the mantle of a “peacemaker” and end wars is revealed for the lie that it is by the killing of Venezuelans in their own country.
For months, the US has been amassing military forces in the Caribbean as a launchpad for its interests in the region: as a threat to the people of Cuba and for its objective of subduing non-US aligned Latin American states.
The military attack was followed by the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, reaffirming the history of US imperialist intervention in Latin America. This flagrant move shows how international law and national sovereignty do not restrain the true intentions of any imperialist aggressor in their quest for resources and markets.
The CWPUSA rejects the false and hypocritical pretexts of drug trafficking and electoral fraud, both of which have long been used to justify US interventions resulting in bloodshed across in Latin America and beyond. The true objective—amid confrontation with major competitors Russia and China on the world stage—is the securing of US economic and geopolitical interests. Overthrowing the Maduro government is one step in the broader contest.
The CWPUSA strongly condemns the US bombing and military attacks against Venezuela, a new and serious escalation that tramples on the right of Venezuelans to decide their fate; a serious threat to the lives of the working peoples. We express our unconditional solidarity with the Venezuelan workers and people, with the Communist Party of Venezuela, and with their right to resist this military aggression by any means. Only the working class of Venezuela can carve out their own path forward.
We reiterate the necessity for workers and the people of the United States to demand the complete closure and withdrawal of US military bases and troops from across the world, including the Caribbean, and to call for the termination of all military agreements and alliances.
We call on the workers and people of the US to condemn this new imperialist intervention, to connect the struggles in solidarity with the Venezuelan people to the need to topple the capitalist system which requires endless war.
The fight to end capitalism is the fight to end to war!

En las primeras horas del 3 de enero, Estados Unidos intensificó su agresión contra Venezuela mediante bombardeos en Caracas y otras ciudades y pueblos. Esta escalada es la culminación de años de guerra política y económica para asfixiar a los trabajadores y al pueblo venezolano. La imagen de una administración Trump que afirmaba asumir el papel de "pacificador" y poner fin a las guerras queda al descubierto como la mentira que es, con el asesinato de venezolanos en su propio país.
Durante meses, Estados Unidos ha estado acumulando fuerzas militares en el Caribe como plataforma para sus intereses en la región: como amenaza para el pueblo de Cuba y con el objetivo de someter a los Estados latinoamericanos no alineados con Estados Unidos.
El ataque militar fue seguido por el secuestro del presidente venezolano Nicolás Maduro, reafirmando la historia de intervención imperialista estadounidense en América Latina. Esta flagrante acción demuestra cómo el derecho internacional y la soberanía nacional no limitan las verdaderas intenciones de ningún agresor imperialista en su búsqueda de recursos y mercados.
El CWPUSA rechaza los pretextos falsos e hipócritas del narcotráfico y el fraude electoral, ambos utilizados durante mucho tiempo para justificar las intervenciones estadounidenses que han provocado derramamiento de sangre en América Latina y más allá. El verdadero objetivo, en medio de la confrontación con sus principales competidores, Rusia y China, en el escenario mundial, es asegurar los intereses económicos y geopolíticos de Estados Unidos. Derrocar al gobierno de Maduro es un paso en esta contienda más amplia.
El CWPUSA condena enérgicamente los bombardeos y ataques militares estadounidenses contra Venezuela, una nueva y grave escalada que pisotea el derecho de los venezolanos a decidir su destino; una seria amenaza para la vida de los trabajadores. Expresamos nuestra solidaridad incondicional con los trabajadores y el pueblo venezolano, con el Partido Comunista de Venezuela y con su derecho a resistir esta agresión militar por todos los medios. Solo la clase trabajadora de Venezuela puede forjar su propio camino.
Reiteramos la necesidad de que los trabajadores y el pueblo de Estados Unidos exijan el cierre completo y la retirada de las bases y tropas militares estadounidenses de todo el mundo, incluido el Caribe, y que exijan la rescisión de todos los acuerdos y alianzas militares.
Hacemos un llamado a los trabajadores y al pueblo de Estados Unidos a condenar esta nueva intervención imperialista, a vincular las luchas en solidaridad con el pueblo venezolano con la necesidad de derrocar el sistema capitalista que requiere guerras interminables.
¡La lucha para acabar con el capitalismo es la lucha para acabar con la guerra!
