On Friday, August 11, Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ), a body closely aligned with the government of Nicolás Maduro, sided with a group of mercenaries bent on seizing the name and symbols of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV) for themselves. Though the organization of the party itself remains intact, this latest attack constitutes a grave threat to its legal status and identity. As unlawful and unconstitutional this decision is and will no doubt prove to be, it must be noted that, to the bourgeois state, laws and rights mean nothing when it comes to defending the profits of the capitalist class. Only under socialism—real socialism—shall the laws and actions of the state be aligned with the rights and interests of the working people.
The Communist Workers’ Platform USA condemns this decision by the TSJ, as well as the actions of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in enabling these mercenaries. We once again declare our full solidarity with the PCV in defense against this assault on their legal existence. It will take more than a gang of doppelgängers to defeat the vanguard of the proletariat.

Declaración de CWPUSA sobre el reciente intento del PSUV de robar la identidad del PCV
El viernes 11 de agosto, el Tribunal Supremo de Justicia (TSJ) de Venezuela, un organismo estrechamente alineado con el gobierno de Nicolás Maduro, se puso del lado de un grupo de mercenarios empeñados en apoderarse del nombre y los símbolos del Partido Comunista de Venezuela (PCV). Aunque la organización del partido en sí permanece intacta, este último ataque constituye una grave amenaza para su estatus legal y su identidad. A pesar de lo ilegal e inconstitucional que esta decisión es y sin duda demostrará ser, hay que señalar que, para el Estado burgués, las leyes y los derechos no significan nada cuando se trata de defender los beneficios de la clase capitalista. Sólo bajo el socialismo—el socialismo real—las leyes y acciones del Estado estarán alineadas con los derechos e intereses del pueblo trabajador.
La Plataforma Comunista de los Trabajadores de los EE UU (CWPUSA) condena esta decisión del TSJ, así como las acciones del Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) al permitir a estos mercenarios. Una vez más declaramos nuestra total solidaridad con el PCV en defensa contra este asalto a su existencia legal. Se necesitará más que una banda de dobles para derrotar a la vanguardia del proletariado.
