Flooding in Spain: Another Catastrophe of the Bourgeois State
The CWPUSA stands in solidarity with the people of Spain, especially the people of Valencia. The death toll from the flooding caused by the DANA has exceeded 200, leaving widespread destruction in its wake, displacing families and demolishing homes. We extend our condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives.
In our own country, as we witnessed with Hurricanes Milton and Helene, people are abandoned, left unprotected to die in the face of nonexistent emergency preparedness—another consequence of the bourgeois state. The deaths of over 200 people in the U.S. from Helene, along with over 200 in Spain, make it clear: regardless of the government’s orientation (left, right, liberal, conservative), federal, state and local ruling parties bear direct responsibility for failing to take necessary measures to protect lives. The lack of flood protection in both cases exposes the bourgeois state’s incapacity to safeguard the welfare of its people. Instead, it consistently sacrifices human lives to cut costs, while pouring millions into imperialist alliances, military plans, and mechanisms designed to suppress popular outrage.
In the words of the communists of Spain: There Are Culprits.
Behind these lost lives are the culprits who benefit from this barbarism and only the people have the power to hold them accountable.
