Gaza Is Being Starved
Gaza Is Starving Being Starved
The headlines across nearly every major news outlet over the last few weeks have been warning of an impending famine that has now finally arrived in Gaza. United Nations affiliates have reported the severity of the situation with not thousands, not hundreds of thousands, but the approximately 2.1 million people who are living in Gaza are unable to find adequate nutrition and astonishing percentages throughout the report show the scale of bloodshed from Israeli bombs will be a drop in the bucket compared to the deaths from starvation, let alone sickness and exposure. [1]
But the bourgeois media is WRONG. Every single outlet is completely unwilling to accurately describe what is happening in the plainest terms. Gaza is not starving. It is being starved. Israel is committing a genocide. It is intentionally starving the people of Gaza. The state of Israel has made it clear that it wants to. Its actions demonstrate that it will unless it fears it won’t be able to get away with it. Every story that lays blame on Hamas or other pro-Palestine forces while in the same breath acknowledges that Israeli forces are only willing to ease up on the blockade they themselves set up is lying and must be exposed.
We cannot delay action. We will not convince a government that is encouraging the genocide of Gaza to completion. We can’t wait for our government to change its mind as the bodies pile up. We must clearly delineate the interests of the workers, and the interests of the bourgeois, and we must strike fear into the bourgeoisie. We need an all out economic assault on the bourgeoisie in defense of Palestine. Workers, if you know of arms shipments it is your duty to report them to local organizations. Workers, if shipments of materials or weapons to Israel can be stopped you must do so. If bourgeois politicians are directly supporting Israel they must not be allowed to sleep.
We must fight for an immediate end to the genocide.
We must fight for an independent Palestinian state.
Author’s note: the millions in Gaza, in Palestine, these are people. Real people. The image used in the thumbnail of this article was of a 17 year old boy named Mohammed Assaf. The picture bears the watermark of Hossam Shabat, a Palestinian journalist who was murdered by an Israeli air strike at the age of 23. I’m in tears writing this. Angry. Terrified. There’s so many people who will be lost if we do not act.
