Joint Declaration of the Communist and Workers' Parties of America: With economic warfare, the people lose, the monopolies win!
The undersigned Communist and Workers' Parties declare their opposition to the Summit of Presidents convened by Donald Trump, called the "Shield of the Americas Summit," which aims to coordinate heads of state aligned with US foreign policy. This occurs within a global context of deepening contemporary inter-capitalist crisis, pitting US imperialism and its European allies against countries of another imperialist bloc, such as China and Russia, among others. These countries are vying for control of the planet's main energy sources, international markets for their products, and key trade routes, leading to an increase in wars worldwide.
The peoples of the region pay the price for this fierce competition through the renewed imperialist aggression against the peoples of Venezuela and Cuba, and the peoples of the world through the US and Israeli imperialist war against the people of Iran.
In this scenario, the US administration is developing a policy in our hemisphere that is expressed in the so-called “Trump Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine”: an openly aggressive update that aims to return Latin America and the Caribbean to the status of extractive protectorates, subject to the will of US monopoly capital.
The agenda of the meeting, among other things, is to put an end to the influence of China and other countries through their capital exports to the Americas, their development in various countries of our region, and the influence of various so-called “progressive” governments aligned with the capitalists of the so-called emerging economies.
The people must not be deceived: behind the false dilemma of choosing between a unipolar bloc and a multipolar bloc, there is no path that favors our interests as the working class, beyond the consciousness we must build and the articulation for the class struggle that will allow us to defeat our class enemies. The dispute between these global power blocs has nothing to do with liberating the world's workers from exploitation. The struggle between these monopolies is for hegemony within the global imperialist system.
The governments that submit to this logic, from Argentina to Paraguay, from El Salvador and Ecuador to Bolivia, Honduras, and Venezuela, do not act in the name of our people, but rather as regional administrators of one or another imperialist bloc.
It is the monopolies of both blocs that vie for profits, and it is the workers who pay the price: with a rising cost of living, loss of purchasing power, deindustrialization, mass layoffs, persecution, the plundering of natural resources and territories, militarization, and a general increase in imperialist aggression. The bombing of Venezuela on January 3rd, and the economic blockade against heroic socialist Cuba, demonstrate that imperialism brings not solutions to our countries, but bombs, hunger, and unemployment.
The only force capable of halting this spiral of economic and military confrontation is the organized struggle of the working class and the peoples of the Americas, who must not be forced to choose the “lesser evil” within the framework of capitalism. This rupture can only be achieved by building an independent path aimed at workers' and people's power.
With economic warfare, the people lose, the monopolies win!
Only the struggle of the working class and the construction of socialism-communism can reverse this situation!
