The Communist Workers’ Platform denounces the arrest of members of the Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) and the Front of Communist Youth (FJC)

On October 2nd, members of the Communist Party of Mexico (PCM) and the Front of Communist Youth (FJC) were targeted by police near the party's offices in downtown Mexico City.

Comrade Miguel Uribe, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Mexico, and Comrade Ernesto Santrich, Political Secretary of the FJC, along with six others, were subjected to what amounts to a violent, illegal frame-up attempt by Mexico City Police officers. The authorities physically assaulted Comrade Miguel, forcing him to his knees, and attempted to coerce him into surrendering his phone password. In addition to these unjustifiable arrests, the police confiscated flags, banners, megaphones, and seized other political materials.

These members and cadres of the Communist Party of Mexico and its youth organization were heading to the Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco to participate in student and popular mobilizations marking the 58th anniversary of the Tlatelolco Massacre. The killings, carried out with government approval under the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), were executed by army forces who opened fire on student demonstrators, resulting in more than 350 deaths and thousands of arrests.

Social democracy, under the MORENA government, confirms its historical role as anti-popular, anti-worker, and anti-communist. By deploying its shock troops against this mobilization—one that keeps alive the memory of the massacre while specifically targeting the Communist Party and Communist Youth—it again joins the other parties of the dictatorship of capital, the PRI and National Action Party (PAN).

As seen across the world, both present and past, these attacks demonstrate why communists must struggle against the growing social democratic trend in our country. We must continue to struggle against the ideas of those that hailed Sheinbaum's election as "a win for the Latin American region" or "breaking the glass ceiling." Regardless of the government's character, as long as the state remains in the hands of the exploiters, our historic mission remains incomplete.

The CWPUSA condemns these violent and provocative attacks against the Communist Party of Mexico and the Front of Communist Youth. We express our firm solidarity with their struggle, their role in seeking justice for the victims and their families, and their resistance against cover-ups by the MORENA government.
