The U.S. Attacks Venezuela! Escalation In Latest Bid To Launch Political Upheaval In Venezuela
On August 28th, the U.S. after weeks of coalescing naval forces, deployed them to Venezuela (1) under the auspices of combatting cartels such as Tren De Aragua. While the U.S. continues to dramatically increase its ICE presence, deploy the National Guard in major cities, and build concentration camps, (or retrofit WWII era internment camps in the case of Fort Bliss,) (2) the Trump administration has been continuously expressing a more jingoistic approach to economic growth. The KKE in a statement denouncing the deployment accurately identified the U.S.’ true motivations when stating; “The real reasons lie in the attempt by US monopolies to get their hands on Venezuela's huge energy reserves and in the US government's attempt to repel China's economic and political penetration in Latin America, in the context of their rivalry for primacy in the global imperialist system.” (3) As global energy prices continue to rise, (4) and the rapid development of AI programs and data centers accelerating this trend, (commanding 1.5% of global electricity consumption and growing,) (5) the U.S.’ interest in planting new political leadership, and now its most recent plan to conduct this after multiple failures across administrations, has continued to grow accordingly to expand energy dominance at the expense of the BRICS camp, which has continued to develop its economic relationship with Venezuela. The Maduro administration has mass mobilized militias in response. (6)
On September 2, in an escalation, the U.S. Navy struck an alleged “drug carrying vessel” supposedly operated by Tren De Aragua with absolutely no evidence presented to support the claim, killing 11. (7) When asked about potential ground invasion of Venezuela, Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded, “We’re going to take on drug cartels wherever they are and wherever they’re operating against the interests of the United States.” Trump has proceeded to gloat about the strike.
The PCV had condemned the U.S. campaign against Venezuela, stating that the U.S.’ actions, in addition to their clear imperialist character, inevitably intensified the PSUV’s campaign to crack down on the revolutionary left and the popular movement. (8) The PCV has received messages of solidarity from a myriad of other parties across Latin America.
The CWPUSA continues to express its support for the workers of Venezuela and will support every effort by the workers of Venezuela to struggle against the anti-popular crackdown of the PSUV and against U.S. imperialist jingoism. We express solidarity with our comrades of the PCV. We absolutely condemn the mobilization of warships and any further action against the Venezuelan people by the U.S. government and the continuation of the blockade!
