The US Congress has recently passed a bill into law enforcing the most recent rail union contract—a contract which meets all but the most basic demands of the rail workers—and rendering any strike action by the union illegal. The bill received bipartisan support in the House and Senate, and was signed into law on Friday by President Joe Biden, a man who frequently claims to be “pro-worker” and “pro-union”. Thus we have yet more proof of the capitalist class-character of both the Democratic and Republican Parties, who have catered entirely to the interests of the rail companies while throwing mere scraps to the workers in their time of need. Needless to say, the CWP condemns these parties and this government for such an act. We also condemn the Communist Party USA and other so-called “left” organizations who have voiced support for this bill in the name of “compromise”. If the US working class is ever to achieve meaningful, revolutionary change, we must wholly reject the corporate duopoly and their social-democratic appendages. The CWP also upholds the absolute right of every union to hold a strike as they see fit, and offer our support to the rail workers and unions in their struggle for this right.
